System troubleshooting
Check the electrical supply, thermostat, sensor and heating cable to help identify the source of the problem.
ELECTRIC HEATED FLOOR DIAGNOSTICS & REPAIR
A heated floor that stops working doesn’t automatically mean replacing the whole floor. We investigate the problem, locate cable faults where possible and assess whether a targeted repair is practical.
HOW WE CAN HELP
Whether your thermostat shows an error, the protection keeps tripping or the floor stays cold, start with a proper assessment.
Check the electrical supply, thermostat, sensor and heating cable to help identify the source of the problem.
Use electrical testing and, where suitable, thermal imaging and fault-locating equipment to narrow down the affected area.
Assess accessible cable damage and carry out a suitable repair where the cable type and condition allow.
Check the repaired circuit and explain the findings before the opened floor area is restored.
FROM OUR PROJECTS
Examples from different heated-floor projects, showing fault locating, exposed damage, cable repair and electrical testing.

A concentrated hot spot visible during fault-locating work helps narrow down where to investigate.

A break in the heating cable exposed beside a doorway after the surrounding floor covering was opened.

A sleeved repair connection visible in the opened floor area, before the tile finish is reinstated.

A resistance reading of 60.1 Ω alongside the cable’s 60.0 Ω label. Resistance is one part of the electrical testing process.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Send us a photo of the thermostat, any error message and the heating cable information if available. Tell us when the issue started and whether any flooring or renovation work happened nearby.
After diagnosis, we explain the likely repair area, access requirements and practical options. Some jobs can proceed during the same visit; others need a return appointment after the floor has been opened.
Flooring arrangements matter. Tile removal is assessed separately. Replacement tiles, retiling, grout and other finish restoration are excluded unless specifically included in your estimate. Have matching replacement tile available before arranging access work.
BEFORE YOU GET STARTED
Not always. If a cable fault can be located and repaired, access may be limited to the affected area. Tile size, cable layout and the number of faults determine how much needs to be opened.
No. Repairability depends on the cable type, condition, extent of damage and access. Diagnosis helps establish whether repair is practical, and additional faults may become apparent during the work.
Yes. A cold floor does not by itself confirm a broken heating cable. We assess the controls and electrical system as part of troubleshooting.
Tile removal is considered separately based on the floor and access needed. You may need a tiler to expose the area and restore the finish. Tile replacement and finish restoration are not included unless stated in the estimate.
Based in Courtice, we serve Oshawa, Whitby, Bowmanville, Newcastle, Ajax, Pickering and other Durham Region and GTA locations. Travel and scheduling are confirmed when arranging your assessment.
LET’S GET TO THE SOURCE
Send photos of the thermostat and floor, describe the symptoms and include your location.
